Orange Chicken Using Store-bought Chicken Popcorns

As a mom I try my best to keep food interesting for my little one and I find that this particular hacked dish works everytime! I switch between lemon and orange depending on what is available; the secret is keeping the right balance of sweet and sour. Heck, this even curbs my Chinese food cravings on lazy or lean (😋) days!

Ok, assuming we already have a batch , say two cups of fried chicken popcorns set aside. The following is what you need for the orange sauce:

Juice of 1 orange (1/2 cup?)

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp orange zest

1 tsp sesame oil

2-3 tsp sesame seeds

2 tsp toasted garlic

salt to taste

1 tbsp slurry (mixture of cornstarch and water)

Hacked Orange Chicken

To make the sauce, combine juice, soy sauce and sugar in a sauce pan and allow to boil for a minute or until slightly reduced.

Add in sesame oil, orange zest and slurry, mix. The sauce should be ready  as soon as it turns thick and glossy. Toss in chicken pieces, sesame seeds and garlic, mix until well combined.

Serve hot.
